PADEMARK - Patent Attorneys/Trademark Attorneys in Vietnam

SALOMON S.A.S. has successfully challenged the registration of trademark "MAVIC" in Vietnam.

The case dated back to December 2008 when Mr. Nguyen Van Loc, based at Sa Dec Town, Dong Thap Province, Vietnam filed an application for registration of the trademark "MAVIC" for class 12 in Vietnam. Whereas, the trademark was earlier registered for classes 8, 12, 18, 21, 25, 28, 37, 38 and 41 in Vietnam through the Madrid system in 1995 by SALOMON S.A.S based at 74966 ANNECY Cedex 9 - France.

As authorized by our client, SALOMON S.A.S, we have requested the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam (NOIP) to refuse the registration of the said trademark in Vietnam on the ground that it was confusingly similar to the trademark being onwed by our client.

At the result, on 6 August 2009, NOIP issued a notification informing Mr. Nguyen Van Loc of its intention of not granting a certificate for the proposed trademark with above-mentioned reason.
